High school students have taken their academic experience off "campus", and to a place where their \"classmates\" are 70 to 80 years their senior. Their school is the Orleans County Nursing Home. The alternative education program is a voluntary program that is available to students that have promise but have had some difficulty in the traditional school environment and structure.

High School students are within easy reach of adulthood. In order to be a wise consumer, students need to understand how borrowing over time works and what happens when their appetite for consumable goods is bigger than their pocketbooks. Developing an awareness of how deferred payments work and what they can cost over the long term will help these young adults be good stewards of their own finances.
: Students will discuss how messages are presented to audiences of different age groups in various ways by studying parables. Students will analyze parables and various children's storybooks. In groups, students will design a children's storybook based on a message derived from their analysis of parables. Finally the students will write an essay and deliver a PowerPoint presentation to the class regarding their process with the assignment.

In this lesson, students will review their knowledge of density, mass, volume, and pressure. They will apply these concepts while designing a model boat. Students will construct their model, float it in water, and see if it can hold weight. Finally, students will reflect on their learning in writing.
In this lesson, students will review their knowledge of density, mass, volume, and pressure. They will apply these concepts while designing a model boat. The students will be doing a multi cache scavenger hunt. The students will be trying to locate five different geographic locations using the given latitude and longitude. Each cache will also come with a clue of what the students are trying to locate. The five points will be pre-entered into their GPS units.
